Deeside Way

18th June - Lucy and I walked from Riverside East to Duthie Park, via Allenvale, and then out to Crathes. Approx 16 miles.  Beautiful day.   Very stiff afterwards.   I think I could have managed another mile or so.  We got a lift home from John.

1 April 2015

End of month FB post.

End of month post (a day late as I was in Ayr / Glasgow yesterday.)
31 Dec - 16 stone 5 lbs
29 Jan - 15 stone 11 lbs
28 Feb - 15 stone 9 lbs.
31 Mar - 15 stone 9 lbs.
Not an ounce off. However, the ongoing attempt to get fitter has gone better. At the start of the year, going to the gym was a pointless exercise because it took an hour to drive there and back, and faff around getting changed, and I couldn't exercise for more than 10 mins before I was puffed. So the whole thing seemed pointless. I've started walking to the gym (4.4 miles) I can now manage 16 mins and 30 secs before getting puffed. And then I walk home (unless it starts to sleet, in which case I take the bus, or someone spots me and gives me a lift (thanks, Sandra!) )
The actual gym bit is still pretty pathetic, but sandwiching it between two walks, rather than driving, stops it from feeling entirely pointless.
Also, I can now walk to Inverurie and back without having to revive myself with a coffee and a fine piece in the Dairy!
Onwards and downwards into April!

(Somehow I wrote this, and left it as a draft, instead of posting. When I posted it, it appeared as the most recent post, even though it wasn't. )

Clothes -  Short sleeved tops

1. Purple (L)  Stretchy - shows off bulges  - better at 14 1/2 stone
2. Red with white spots (16)  - as above
3. We Can Do It  -as above
4. Black / white / red/ purple stripes (14/16) -as above
5. Purple Tibet - as above
6. Black and white stripes (14/16) -as above
7. Blue Emily Wilding Davison  - as above
8. Black with net inset at neck - as above
9 Pink and purple striped (12??!)  - as above
10. White with flowers (18) - as above
11. Blue Weekenders (L) - as above
12. Zimbabalooba (XL) - as above
13. Class of 14 (XL) - as above
14. Light green (L) - as above
15. Black with plastic beads - as above

Buggeration!! Not a single short sleeved top looks good.  How has this happened? I was wearing these when I was 10lbs heavier.   All these tops will still fit at 14 1/2  stones.  I'd have to be massively lighter for any of them to be "too big"  Bugger, bugger, bugger.

Church dresses

Planning on rotating my church dresses for more variety.

7/6 - Purple / blue / black size 18 and bit frumpy.
14/6 Black and white striped size 20. Love this, but it's a good fit now, so no idea why I thought I                fitted into it at 16 stone 5.
21/6  Black with daisies size 18. Would look better if I was carrying less weight.

End of May FB post

End of month non-news 2 days late:
31 Dec - 16 stone 5 lbs
29 Jan - 15 stone 11 lbs
28 Feb - 15 stone 9 lbs.
31 Mar - 15 stone 9 lbs.
30 April - no idea as scales collapsed (!)
Today - 15 stone 7 1/2 lbs.
It's not been a great month, exercise wise. I had a twingy right knee, so cut back on walking and went swimming. Swimming converted the twingy right knee into a twingy right hip. However, I have enjoyed a couple of great walks, and also enjoyed getting back in the pool.
Also, the twingy leg is a steady reminder that my weight is doing my joints no favours at all. So perhaps June will be a more focussed month.

Size 18 jeans!

Bought two new pairs of size 18 jeans from M&Co on Thursday, and wore one pair today.  I am delighted with them!

Went to Taste of Grampian and didn't go mad tasting things.  Bought some high-calorie rosemary and honey peanuts in the hope that a very little will go a long way.

13 April 2015

After a week of John being on holiday and lots and lots of coffee and fine pieces, I'm back up to 16 stone.  So I'm going to really have to get to grips with this.

2 April 2015

Article in All About Health (free pharmacy mag). If your waist (without breathing in) measures more than half of your height,  your life expectancy will be reduced.

Waist without breathing in - 43 inches.

My height - 65inches.

Damn. That's a much worse ratio than I expected.

So I need to reduce my waist to 32 inches.

19 March 2015

Well, this is annoying. 15 stone 10lbs this morning.  So I have 12 days to lose 5lbs. That must be do-able.  Surely.

On a more positive note, last night I did 2.5 km in 15 mins on the rowing machine.  It might have been set at an easier setting; I don't know.  But it's the first time I've felt I could do a proper work-out on the rowing machine.

Walked to the gym - 4.4 miles.
1500 metres on the rowing machine - 8 mins 30 secs
40 stomach curls on the thing.
Ten of the first dumbbell exercise using the lightest cissiest dumbbells
1.5 miles on bike at level 3 or 4 - 8 mins.
Walked back as far as Thainstone roundabout, where Sandra offered me a lift. 2.3 miles.
Left house at 9, got home 12.30.

Tried on skirt in M&Co, lovely colours.  18 fitted, just, but style did nothing for me.

12 March 2015

Walked to gym, popping into St Andrews church en route. Left the house at 9, and got to the gym at 10.25. V pleased to have done it in under 90 mins.  Did 1250m on rowing machine in 7 mins, 30 of the sit-ups on the frame and 1.5 miles on the bike in 6 mins.  So that's my best gym work out yet, though plenty of room for improvement! Then I walked home, going in past Strachans for cards and Dossetts for meat, and got home at 1.

Rest day tomorrow!

Clothes (Dresses / trousers 31 Jan;  skirts 10 Feb)

Nightwear

Cosy PJs blue / black size 18/20.  Fit comfortably. Will still fit at 15 stone
Pink heart nightshirt size 20/22- comfortably baggy. Will be baggier but ok at 15 stone
Purple nightshirt size 18.  Fits comfortably. Will be better at 15 stone
Pink / spotty PJs size 18/20. Fits comfortably
Purple spotty nightshirt
Silk nightie
Tatty teddy PJs size 16 - too tight

Three pairs bed socks
Purple slippers

Pink dressing gown
Purple fleecy dressing gown size 18-20.

Think I have plenty of nightwear which will do till I'm 14 stone.

11 March 2015

Long gap since my last post.  lots has happened - Alex,  the March of the women, etc.

This morning I was 15 9, exactly what I was a fortnight ago, which is fine. Hopefully I can get below 15 7 by 31 March. Ideally I'd like to lose 4lbs in the next  20 days, which would mean I'd lost a stone in total.

This morning I walked to the gym, 4.5 miles, which took 90 mins.  Then I did 1 km on the rowing machine (took 6 mins) , 20 sit ups on the frame and 1 mile on the bike, mostly at level 2, which took 5 mins.  I was going to walk home, but when I came out of the gym it was raining. I walked the first mile, but by then it was stinging hailstones, so I caught the bus back. Including walking from the bus stop in Kintore, total 6 miles walked.

28 Feb 2015
Last day of the month post.
31 Dec - 16 stone 5 lbs
29 Jan - 15 stone 11 lbs
28 Feb - 15 stone 9 lbs.
So two pounds off, which is fine, and if I convert it to kilos, it means I've dropped below 100kg!
More to the point, I've enjoyed an 8 mile walk with Catriona and her friends, and an 8 mile walk to and from Newton Dee, where I did my bit to support the ND community by having coffee and a fine piece. Plus shorter walks with Linda and Trusty, and with Catherine. Another Jazzercise withGillian, and a ceilidh with John.
Roll on March!

19 Feb 2015

Did a long walk on Tues 17. Lift into RGU from John, walked to Duthie Park, walked along Deeside Way to Newton Dee, coffee, homebake, wander round shops, walked back to RGU; 8 miles excluding wandering round ND.  Lovely day, fresh air, birdsong, snowdrops, just perfect.

Wed 18 - theoretically rest day but got a lift into RGU with John, then walked to John Lewis (popping into shops en route) which is 3 miles, plus the extra wandering, then walked back to Hobbycraft, so probably did between 4 and 5 miles. Taking today as a rest day instead.

Tried on size 18 trousers in BHS and they were too tight.  Horrified at how I look in changing room mirrors - I must have been in total denial.

Haven't lost any weight this month! Hoping I've converted some fat into muscle. Keep thinking it'll suddenly come off.

Monday, 16 February 2015

16 Feb 2015

Got the munchies.

Yesterday I walked to the end of the Boghead road and back - thought it would be 4 miles, but only 3 unfortunately.

Today I walked to the cemetery and back - only 2.4 miles.

It's two miles to the Thainstone roundabout.

Clothes 10 Feb 2015

Dresses and trousers / leggings on  31 Jan

Skirts
Black with frill at bottom - will look better at 15 stone
Black with green / red / pink spots - will look better at 15 stone
Short skirt from Barcelona - will look better at 15 stone
Long purple skirt  - fits, but will look better at 15 stone
White skirt - fits, but will look better at 15 stone
Long black skirt - fits, but will look better at 15 stone
Short purple sparkly skirt - fits but will look better at 15 stone
Silk Monsoon skirt - fits but will look better at 15 stone

This should be a good incentive - I don't possess a single skirt which wouldn't look better if I weighed a stone less.

Today's walk
Walked to Inverurie Swimming Pool  -4.4 miles
Rowed 500m
Did 20 sit ups with the frame
Walked home - 4.4 miles

It took 5 hours (including stopping to speak to Linda,  stopping to take photos,  popping in for a look round Craigdon,  buying bird food from the ironmonger, buying tonight's tea from Dossetts.

Monday, 9 February 2015

Clovenstone loop with Linda 9 Feb 2015

Did the Clovenstone loop - 3.8 miles.

Scales playing up - they're weighing me at 16 stone, but going back to 2lbs when I get off.

Saturday, 7 February 2015

Turriff Walk - 7 Feb 2015

Walked with Cat, Jill, Karen, Eloise and someone else, plus Stanley the dog. Did (I think) just short of 8 miles.  Took 2 hours to do the first 10km. I could keep up with the others on the level, but I was struggling with the uphill bits.

I am determined to get fitter! Though losing weight would help.  I should aim for 15 4 by the end of this month.

Yesterday I walked from Inverness train station to Mum and Dad's.  On Tues Alex and I walked from his flat to Brig o Doon and back

Saturday, 31 January 2015

Clothes - 31 Jan 2015

I'm feeling fatter now at 15 11 than I did at 16 5. I can only assume that's because I was in massive denial!

Dresses
Black and white stripes - will still fit at 15 stone
Black dress with daisies - will still fit at 15 stone
Purple / blue / black dress -will still fit at 15 stone
Long black dress - currently too tight - try on again at 15 stone.
Black / red / cream dress - bit tight - will look better at 15 stone

Given that the first three dresses are tight at 15 11, I don't know how I squeezed into them at 16 5.

Trousers
Black straight leg jeans - might be too big at 15 stone
Black bootleg jeans - might be too big at 15 stone
Gym trousers - will still fit at 15 stone
Black and peacock trousers - tight - will look better at 15 stone

Leggings
2 black - will still fit at 15 stone
Red      - will still fit at 15 stone

Dungarees
Pink and purple - too tight.  Try on again at 15 stone

End of the first month - 29 Jan 2015

Posted on FB:
New Year's Resolution. I said I'd post my weight on the last day of each month of 2015, but I'm heading off to visit my parents, so am doing it a couple of days early this month.
31 Dec 2014 - 16 stone 5 lb
29 Jan 2015 - 15 stone 11 lb
But more importantly I do feel a bit fitter. Two days ago I walked 9 miles in one day (including two coffee stops). I've been introduced to Jazzercise by Gillian, been up Millstone Hill with Catriona, and ceilidhed with John.
Looking forward to February!

I've done a few calculations:

BMI down from 38.1 to 36.7.  The NHS scale is mean. It showed 38.1 at the very top end of obese and now it shows 36.7 at the very top end of obese. If I lose 6lbs in Feb, then I'll be 35.7 - again at the very top end of obesity.

Weight in kilos down from 103.9 to 100.2. - Just need to lose another lb and I'll be below 100kg.

Tuesday, 27 January 2015

Walked 8 miles - 27 Jan 2015

Yesterday I was all ready to go to my third Jazzercise, but John was slightly late, and I've have got there after the warm-up. So I went to the gym with John instead. Traffic was slow, and there was a queue at reception, then both exercise bikes were in use and the rowing machine was out of order.

So I went on the cross-trainer. It took 10 mins at 5mph to do one mile (?) and burn 32 calories. And the background music was irritating.

Today i thought I have to do something drastic. I walked to the Acorn Centre -4 miles. Had a pot of tea and a toilet stop, bought some stuff from the Fair Trade Shop.  Went to the Garioch Heritage Centre and walked home - 4 miles.  So 8 miles in total.  Took 1 hr 20 mins to get there, and about the same time to walk back.  Including the stops, 3 1/2 hours.

Feeling stiff now.

Contemplating clothes - I think it will be the end of March before I start wearing smaller things.

How much do I spend on confectionary?

You Gov has just asked me how much I spend on sweets each month and I guestimated £20 to £30.

Starting again after the flu - 19 Jan

I was 15 13 this morning.  Had a decent post-dentist walk; it's a mile from the dentist to the bus station and I was shopping so didn't go the direct route.

Today - black jeans, size 20, good fit, and boring black top, also a good fit.

Thursday, 15 January 2015

15 Jan

It's been a grim few days with some sort of gastric flu, no exercise whatsoever.

Weighed 15 stone 12lb this morning,  but vomitting is not the best way to lose weight.  However, perhaps I can regard this as an involuntary detox?  I've had no coffee for days, though I've been drinking lucozade.

I am 100.7kg, so should get down below the 100 soon.

10 Jan 2015 - Not feeling well

Woke up late and feeling unwell, so I've had a day in, tidying my study / bedroom. No exercise.

Discovered that my start weight - 16 stone 5lb  - is 104 kg,  so dropping below 100 kg seems a good first goal.  Found a Boots leaflet that said that losing 10% of your body weight reduces the risk of heart disease and diabetes.  10% of my start weight is 1 stone 8lbs, which should be achievable.

Yesterday I did the "walk to the next bus stop thing" and caught the bus at Sandy Thains. Apparently that's 0.9 miles!

Friday, 9 January 2015

Day off - 9 Jan

Yesterday was great!  C picked me up at the back of 9 and we went up Millstone Hill. I left the map behind so we did the straight up and down.  I hadn't remembered it being so steep and had to keep stopping to catch my breath which was embarrassing, but the view from the top made everything worthwhile.

Walk - 3 miles. Height - Millstone Hill is 409m, and the car park is at 100m, so 309m climb.   Looking forward to being fit enough to do Bennachie.

Had D for dinner, so 3 course meal, but did neep and nip soup, chicken stir fry and pineapple upside down, so got my 5 a day in.

Today, Friday, I'm having a day off as I have Stuff To Do.  Plus I'm still coughing.  And the weather is foul.

Thursday, 8 January 2015

The penny drops. 7 Jan 2015

Put on what is my current favourite outfit - black and white stripey dress (M & co, size 20) and black leggings (size 18) . Took a critical look in the mirror. Realised that I need to lose weight not only to fit into clothes I've outgrown, but to fit into some of the clothes I'm wearing now.  On the plus side I still have weeks / months of wearing this dress in front of me!

Headed into Aberdeen. Went to "Fit to Dance for the over-50s" at City Moves. A bargain at £3.  I was easily the fattest there. Plus there was an entire mirror wall, so there was no escaping the fact that I was the fattest there.  Plus I was wearing my gym trousers (M&S, size 16, but surely missized!) and my black and white T-shirt which showed every bulge. A check showed it was size 14-16, so it's being put away till I've lost some (lots of) weight.  The hour long class was fun.

Went to Books and Beans for a virtuous bowl of soup (parsnip and peach) and glass of milk.

Went to Marks and Spencer to spend some of my gift voucher.  I know I said I was happy in my skin, but that doesn't apply to M & S changing rooms.  Ended up with an "extra large" sports bra.  Extra bonus - I have to fight my way into it, and fight my way out of it, so extra work outs right there.

Then I realised I felt ill. Not well at all, queasy and dizzy, and I still had lots to do.  So I went to Cafe Nerro for a flat white and a bar of dark chocolate and felt much, much better.

All in all, today was the day I realised just how fat I am.

6 Jan 2015

Jazzercise!

Went to my first Jazzercise class yesterday 5.45-6.30.  I mostly walked through it, trying to follow what was happening.  The music  meant that I couldn't hear the instructor, but I could see what she was doing. There was one bit which involved hand weights, but only about half the class used them, and there's no way I could have coped with them.

I wore my Emily Wilding Davison t-shirt which is supposed to be baggy, but was tight fitting.  So one thing I'm looking forward to once I've lost weight is wearing it as a baggy T-shirt.

Totally knackered after I got home and had an early night - I blame the ongoing cough.

Today, L, A and I walked to L's optician appointment.  4 miles.  Then I walked a bit more round town, so probably 5 miles in total.  Bought a new top - size 20 - in M & Co's sale for £5.  One of the things I dislike about being at my heaviest ever is the lack of clothes which still fit.

Had my blood sugar checked at Will's pharmacy. 7.9. Up to 8 is ok for a non-fasting test.  However, the pharmacist suggested I consider doing a fasting test for greater accuracy.  I said I would get another non-fasting one done in 6 months and take it from there.  She said that was fine.

Google maps says it's 0.4 miles from here to the Post Office bus stop.

Monday, 5 January 2015

5 Jan 2015.

Spent yesterday in bed with a sore throat and a cough.  So I missed out on the family walk round the Tyrebagger. Plus I ate lots of soft stuff which soothed my throat - mainly chocolate pudding.

However, cousin A phoned. She had weighed herself and is 16 stone 1 1/4. So we're starting from almost the same point. We've agreed we'll go skating once we reach 14 stone!  I love skating, but don't fancy doing it at over 16 stone.

I've signed up to do the Twilight walk 10k on 8 May. I'm currently an XXL T shirt size ( :( ) but I've signed up for an XL on the basis I'll not be XXL by then.

Did a Yogalates DVD with L. The "tums" part of Tums and Bums.  I could not do it. She had her nose touching her knees. There is no way my nose could touch my knees.  I had to give up.  Perhaps I should aim to do this once a week and see if I improve?  Perhaps it's my weight creating a physical barrier?

Cough-wise feeling much better today and looking forward to Jazzercise.

3 Jan 2015

Woke up with a cold, so took things easy.

Went to gym with John.  Did 3.5 km on exercise bike, all at level 2. It took 12 mins, and burned 64 cals.

Also did 20 sit ups with the frame.
2 Jan 2015

John, Lucy and I did the Colony Trail - 2 1/2 miles  middle level
1st Jan 2015

Positive response to Facebook post.

John, Alex, Lucy and I did the Kirkhill walk to Tappie Tower.  3 3/4 miles  middle grade.

New Year's Resolution

31 December 2014

I posted this on Facebook :

New Year Resolution. This morning I weighed 16 stone 5lbs. I hereby resolve to post my weight on the last day of each month of 2015 and if it isn't less than the month before I give everyone permission to give me a kick up the backside. (Which, lets face it, is a pretty large target). I'm aiming to be healthier, so not interested in quick fixes. 7lb a month off would be ideal, though so long as the trend is downwards, and I feel that that I'm getting fitter, I'll be happy.

Went for a walk with A and M, over the Muir of Kinellar.  Approx 3 miles

Went to the gym with John in the afternoon. Did 2 km on exercise bike at level 1 and 1 km at level 2.  Plus did a few sit ups with the frame.
